Uganda’s Nemo Stars open their campaign for the Continental honours this Monday morning against University of Zimbabwe in Africa Volleyball Club championship in Cairo.

The Uganda Champions will play the opening fixture of the tournament and Coach Andrew Okapis says his boys are ready for the challenge.

“We are ready and waiting for our opponents. What I want is just the boys getting focused to the game stay to our game plans,” Okapis noted.

Uganda’s second side the Uganda Christian University will play their opening game at 3pm against Gisagara of Rwanda in an East African affair show piece.

Uganda Christian University men’s volleyball team-UCU doves has been urged to leave a mark in the continental championship Cairo.

UCU Doves and Nemo Stars are representing Uganda in the men’s Africa Club Volleyball championship in Egypt starting March 31 to April 11 ,2019.

“I’m very excited to see that you are representing Uganda in the continental championship. You are facing champions from all over the continent but good performance is not only winning a trophy, but even emerging the most discipline team is good enough,” David Mugawe the university deputy vice Chancellor development and external relations noted.

Team coach Nason Bwesigye promised that his side is going to put up a formidable fight for better results.

“Yes it is our time to compete at this level, but the boys are prepared to get results,” Bwesigye said.

UCU has a squad of thirteen players who includes, Moses Odeke – Captain, John Mark Okurut – Asst Captain, Elias Isiagi, Johnson Rukundo, Jonathan Tumukunde

The schools’ rugby league semi-finals kick off on saturday March 30 at Kings Park ground in Bweyogerere with Kings College Budo facing SMACK in the U-15 category, before taking on Makerere in the U-17 category.

In the U-20 category Budo will take on traditional rivals SMACK in another anticipated tight fixture.

“All games including Budo will be played at Kings Park Bweyogerere on Saturday while the other games on Sunday will be hosted at Kyadondo,” Schools Rugby Chairman Valence Bizimana confirmed the development.

Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) women soccer team captain Aisha Namubiru is confident her side is capable of upsetting Nkumba university when the two sides meet on Friday March 29,2019 in the opening round of the Varsity Women Soccer League.

At the Launch of the League in Mengo on Thursday March 28, Namubiru said that her team is prepared for any challenge.

“This is our time to play women soccer, but that does not mean that we are coming for a beating. We are coming for a win,” Namubiru said.

The chairman organizing committee of the league Michael Kakande promised a well organised league that will attract more teams next season.

This year’s league has attracted five universities including UCU, Nkumba, IUIU, Makerere and Kampala University.

“We have started a new chapter in women football. We are staring with five teams but we believe more teams will join us next year, “noted Kakande.

The top two teams at end of the season will face off in the final that will be on the same day with the men’s final in November at Namboole.


Gawaya focused as Masaka rally is set

The sections for the SMC Challenge rally in Masaka due April 12-14 are set. But the 2WD category rally driver Timothy Gawaya has vowed to beat all his challengers.

“We have overhauled our car. Bought a new gear box and we are ready to sort out the men from the boys.

 And defending champion Ponsiano Lwakataka is the man to beat in the event.

Masaka has always given us a warm welcome. Last year they nicknamed us “akamotoka akato” literally meaning small beast.

“We are focused and we promise not to disappoint our Masaka fans,” Gawaya popularly known as stinger added.

The Masaka rally will cover a total distance of 187kms event of which 132kms are competitive sections.
