Pirates chokes Kobs’ title hopes

By USPA Media

The Betway Kobs needed only a win, to start celebrating wining the 13th league title, but that was not possible as the Stanbic Bank Pirates put up a solid fight winning the game 30-14.

The defeat wrote Kobs of the title by three quarters and it would be a miracle for them to win this year’s Nile Special Premier Rugby League.

It was a sweet revenge for the Pirates who lost the first round 26-13 ending their title hopes to throw Kobs off the league trophy.

“We came focused to a win and we did it. We were not under pressure like them so we played to enjoy and executed our chances,” Pirates coach Bobby Musinguzi noted after the game.

Before Friday game Heathens, 66 points, were trailing Kobs (68pts) with two points and the latter had to win to stay in the title chase.

If Heathens wins their Saturday game against Walukuba with a bonus point, they will be on top of the table with a three-point lead.

Heathens are remaining with two games against Rams and Warriors while Kobs face Shell Rimula Rhinos and Dusupay Warriors.
