The 42-13 thumping by Kenya on Saturday in the first leg of the Elgon Cup is a lesson for Uganda rugby Union to invest much in women and grass root rugby.

The girls had the skills and potential to outmuscle their Kenya counterparts just like the men did, but they lacked fitness and their hands were rusty.

Kenya Lioness Skipper lived by example scoring a hat-trick of tries to inspire her side to 42-13 defeat of the lady Rugby Cranes at the Mamboleo Stadium Kisumu on Saturday.

The defeat was a punishment for the Uganda ladies who have been moreless redundant in the 15s aside version of the game.

Irene Otieno and Celestine Osinde scored the other tries for the hosts as Charlotte Mudoola scored Uganda’s penalty and a try before skipper Winnie Atiang added a try but was not enough to stop the Kenyans.
