Treasurer : Bryan Tumusiime.
Speedway Motorcross Club (SMOC) has elected Mr Wasswa Eria as the new president replacing Omar Mayanja during the special elective assembly held on Saturday.
Arthur Blick Jnr, a director of the club, says the new change was in line with the continuous pressure made by the governing body, Federation of Motorsports Uganda(FMU), not to have a competitor as their President.
” We were told to find a replacement for Omar as the head of SMOC because he’s still an active competitor in rallying this year,” Blick said.
“We have therefore elected Wasswa Eria who we trust will bring calmness to the club and also end the friction that we have had with FMU as we try to tap and develop talents in Motorsport as a club” added the 11 time National motorcross champion.
Under article 7 in the FMU constitution, an active competitor shouldn’t be taking up any top position of any club level because he directly becomes a member of the FMU executive.
Mayanja later replaced Christine Byaruhanga as the new General Secretary of the club after she resigned her role due to tight business schedules.
SMOC will be organising round six of the National Motorcross Championship later in September after the MXOAN round in Zimbabwe.
