The hunt for sh1bn that will go to the construction of two Cancer bunkers at Nsambya Hospital started yesterday with the speaker of parliament Rebecca Kadaga launching the 2019 edition of the Rotary Cancer run.

The event is due August 25, and will start and end at Kololo Ceremonial Ground with participants running 21km, 10km and 5kms respectively.

Kadaga who was the chief guest, urged the public and corporate companies to support this noble cause before launching the run.

“Through Rotary, we can ensure that Ugandans have access to modern cancer treatment in the country. I appeal to everyone to support rotary in ensuring that these two bunkers are built and machines installed,” Kadaga urged.

“Individual members of parliament have each contributed sh1m for the past two years and we pledge to continue supporting this cause again this year,” She added.

A modern cancer treatment machine called a linear accelerator will be installed in these bankers for the treatment of Cancer patients.

Tickets for the run are at sh25000 at Centenary bank branches, capital shoppers’ outlets, Game Store at Lugogo and Rotary office on NIC building.

Rotarian Governor Stephen Mwanje lauded partners including New Vision, Centenary bank, UAP Insurance, Uganda petroleum Authority, Rwenzori water and parliament of Uganda for the continued support.

He said that they already have sh1.6bn in cash and work will start soon.

Centenary bank MD Fabian Kasi pledged his bank’s continued support to the cause before handing over sh165m cheque to Mwanje as this year’s contribution.
