Youngster Stav Orland is optimistic he will defend his 85 cc title in the FIM Africa Nations Motocross Championships on Saturday and Sunday in Harare.

Stav he is not scared of any rider from South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe when the race gets underway.

“I am fine and ready for any challenger who dares me.I have been practicing so hard in Busiika and I believe that my challengers will remain wondering what I have been doing since last year,” He said.

The track in Zimbabwe isn’t any different from ours and I can’t wait to get my machine roaring over the two days and trust me, added the 13year –old 2018-USPA motocross rider of the year.

Stav Orland is the fastest 85 cc class rider on the African continent and looks forward to maintain that.

The event at the Donny Brook racing park has South Africa with 42 riders, Uganda 37, Botswana 29, Zambia 24, and Morocco 4 while hosts Zimbabwe will have 59 riders gracing

the event.

Uganda team is supported by Kampala Executive Aviation, Uganda Lodges and Ethiopia’s airlines, Uganda Motocross Arena Busiika.

Lt. General Muhoozi Kainerugaba on Tuesday flagged off the National Motocross team for the FIM Africa motocross championship in Zimbabwe on Saturday and Sunday urging them to represent their country effectively.

“I’m very proud of you young men and women that are representing your nations. That is patriotism and I salute you for that. Go and make Uganda proud,” Muhoozi said.

He also handed over sh20m contribution from General Salim Saleh to the team at a function held at Imperial Botanical beach Entebbe.

The first group of the team leaves on Wednesday August 28,2019 to Zimbabwe while the second group leave on Thursday via Ethiopia airlines.

Team captain Maxime van Pee promised that his team will do all it can to get a podium finish for Uganda.

The team of 37 riders will use the Zimbabwe championship to prepare for the Armed Forces Appreciation motocross championship in Busiika on October 5-6.

Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces has taken part in the of the East African Community Military Games and Cultural Event 2019 at MOI International Sports Center (MISC) Kasarani in Nairobi Kenya.

The event will run from August 11-24,2019 under the theme “One People, one Destiny” with six Countries that form the East African Community (EAC), Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda.

The Uganda Contingent, code named “Mission Uganda” which was flagged off on the 10th August is comprised of different teams of Football, team, net ball, Volley ball, basketball and the umpires.

The contingent, under the command of Col John Mark Ssemanda who is also the Director of Sports in UPDF, emerged third in the same games and cultural event last year in Burundi.

They won Silver in football and Netball, Bronze in Volleyball and Cross Country.

The Kenya Cabinet Secretary for Defence, Hon Racheal Omamo while presiding over the ceremony applauded EAC countries for honoring their invitation and the teams for their efforts in training that has made the occasion take place in Nairobi.

She added that without their partnership, Kenya would not mark this milestone.

“These games are invisible steps which affirm the unity and togetherness amongst the East African member states. Sports and Cultural events create good relationships not only amongst the countries but also among the players which helps them acquire different skills through working and living together”, she said.

She also congratulated Southern Sudan upon joining the games for the first time and called upon all the participants to work together, eat together and enjoy together, regardless of which countries they come from in order to farther the EAC Objectives.

The Kenyan Defence Forces Chief of General Staff, Gen. Samson Mwathethe was honored to host the EAC Military Games and Cultural events for the second time since 2007.

He urged EAC member states to emulate the EA Defence forces and fast track the regional integration in other sectors if East Africa is to realize tremendous unity, peace and Development.

“EAC Military event will cement and foster the solidarity through the sports and cultural participation which will improve on the health, Skills and unity of the militants”, said General Mwathetha.

Burundian Minister of Defence Maj Gen Pontien Gaciyubwenge, the South Sudan Minister of Defence Maj Gen Kuol Manyang Juuk, the South Sudan People’s Defence Forces Gen Gabriel Dok Riak, the UPDF Joint Chief of Staff Lt General Joseph Musanyufu, the Kenyan Minister of sports and culture Hon Amina Mohammed attended the opening ceremony.

New debutants Kyetume FC will host sixteen time league winners SC Villa when the league gets underway on the 29th of August.

This was revealed by the Uganda Premier League Manager Paul Kabaikaramu during a media briefing at Namboole.

The league will see seven stadia host the matches after the club licencing board upheld other stadia due to lack of requirements.

The chief executive officer of the Uganda Premier league, Mr Bernard Bainamani, said that most clubs will regain status of their grounds once approved by the licencing board

” We are gearing at having one of the best leagues in Africa.

Our clubs have to respect all the decisions made by the licencing board and if they meet the requirements, all will be good for them to use their respective venues.

We just want to call upon sponsors to join us. We also asks fans to avoid hooliganism, clubs to always make their payments with their players and referees to offer the best officiation this season” added Bernard.

Defending champions KCCA FC will open the season as they entertain the purple sharks Wakiso Giants at Lugogo on Saturday 31st August at Lugogo.

Onduparaka, Mbarara City and Kyetume FC are some clubs that await approval from the club licencing board while Namboole, Njeru, Star times Lugogo, Wankulukuku, Kitende, Kabaka Kyabaggu and Luzira were all given green light to host matches.

The 2019/2020 Uganda Premier League Season will see over 40 games aired live on TV.

Today Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA) received sh5m from Standard chartered bank as support for the year’s Road safety campaign.

The Campaign that start on August 17,with activities including painting of the causality ward in Mulago hospital, visiting the accident victims in Mulago and Kawolo hospital will climax on august 24,2019 with painting of the Zebra crossing in Lugazi and cycling competition.

USPA president Patrick Kanyomozi confirmed the activities after Standard Chartered Bank, announced sh5m package for this year’s campaign.

“We are focused on making this activity a nationwide program so that we save the people from all corners of the country,” Kanyomozi said and thanked Stanchart for the continued support.

Standard chartered bank Country Chief Risk officer Edward Muwanga promised continued support and reaffirmed his bank’s commitment to support USPA Road Safety.

“This year on top of sh5m cash contribution, we shall paint Mulago hospital causality ward as a way of sharing a message of hope with the victims of accidents,” Muwanga said.

USPA road safety campaign is in memory of the fallen sports journalists Peter Simon Ekarot, Francis Batte Junior, Kenneth Matovu and Leo Kabunga who perished in road accident on August 21, 2001 in Lugazi.

“We are committed to a continued partnership with Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA) to sensitize the public about road safety,” Muwanga added.

He also urged Ugandans to respect traffic regulations and other road users to reduce on the road accidents that are crippling and claiming the lives of many people in the country.

The USPA road safety campaign is supported by Standard Chartered bank, City Tyres, UNRA, NCS and KCCA FC.

The Betway Kobs, will have to qualify for the quarter finals of the Edward Kitaka Memorial 7s circuit to emerge the 2019 Roke 7s National Rugby Circuit Champions.

This after Kobs beating their rivals and defending champions The Stanbic Black Pirate 28-19 in the final of the Jinja 7s Circuit on Saturday august 10 at DamWaterz Grounds, Jinja.

It was an action packed full day, at the DamWaterz Rugby Grounds, Jinja despite, the heavy rains   on Saturday.

Kobs,126points are six points ahead of the Pirates (120) with a circuit to go.

Kobs skipper Joseph Aredo attributed the victory to team work and said they will continue working hard as they prepare for the National Premiership league that is due November.

 “We do respect Pirates as a team and individual players, but this time we really wanted it. Since the circuits before were really tough outings,” Aredo said.

The Pirates came into Jinja circuit with two wins and much pressure to level three with Kobs but could not manage.

Pirates coach Bob Musinguzi said,” We had all the opportunities to win the game, but we gave it away ourselves. “

“We are going to work hard, correct our mistakes and come back for the Kitaka memorial 7s.

The series is co-sponsored by Guinness and Pepsi, as winners of the circuit received sh500000 in prize money.
