The 2019 CECAFA U20 Challenge Cup is set to kick-off on 21st September,2019 with hosts Uganda facing Eritrea at 4 PM in Pece War Memorial stadium ,Gulu.
The first game of the tournament will see Sudan taking on Djibouti at 2 PM at the same venue.
Ten countries including, Sudan, Kenya, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Burundi, South Sudan, Zanzibar and Somalia will compete in the tournament.
CECAFA General Secretary Nicholas Musonye is optimistic that the event will be successful.
“This tournament helps create better working relationships with all stakeholders and in particular the media who we think will help promote it. I want to also thank FUFA who have worked tirelessly in ensuring everything moves smoothly” noted Musonye.
Darius Mugoye, the local organizing committee chairman urged fans to support the national team the Hippos.
“I thank CECAFA for giving us the opportunity to host this tournament, but call on fans to support our boys. We expect huge crowds from Gulu. We want to bank on the success we have had in the CECAFA U-15 and U-17 tournaments where we were champions,” He explained.
Group A matches will be hosted in Gulu while group B and C are to be played at FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru.
Rwanda will not take part in this year’s edition citing financial constraints.
