Mukono Municipality Mayor,George Kajimu has urged the organisers of the Total Kabalega Rally on october 17-20 to double their safety efforts.
Kajimu made the appeal in his remarks while addressing journalists at Grand Praclos in Mukono where he launched the home of karting in Uganda.
” I want to ask the organizers (United Motorsport Club) to ensure that safety measures are set and emphasised. People in Hoima need to be secure, fans from other parts who will have gone to Hoima should equally be safe,” Kagimu said before launching the Karting discipline.
Solomon Kajura, the President of formula one Uganda, urged fans to turn up in big numbers and enjoy the event.
” We will have a race of karting in Hoima on Friday afternoon as another way of encouraging drivers to join the newly created sport.
We know the sport is expensive but as a club we have managed to buy five karts and these will be good for starters as we try to spread the sport.
Our goal is to have as many drivers as people in Uganda driving karts” added Kajura.
Karting will soon open an art of a track in December.
Total, Coca Cola, Grand Praclos hotel, victoria University ,Hotel Kontik, are some of the sponsors of the rally that runs from 17-20 October.
