Rajiv Ruparelia put up a spirted fight to draw first blood by winning day one of the MOSAC Rally in Nakaseke district.
Rajiv Navigated by Enock Olinga in a Volks Wagen Polo posted a total time loss of 16.12 minutes to beat the stiff opposition from Omar Mayanja (17.25), Yasin Nasser (17.27), Ronald Ssebuguzi 17.40 and Arthur Blick Jr 18.16 in second, third, fourth and fifth respectively.
“Day one has gone on well and we are waiting to see what we can do tomorrow. The car is moving and we hope to stay focused,” Rajiv said after day one.
Meanwhile drivers boycotted driving the second run of the Super special stage citing poor roads.
“We are here to drive cars for our fans but not to break them. We are not going to drive the second run,” Hussein Mukuye who is Omar Mayanja’s navigator said.
Crews will tomorrow on Sunday tackle the competitive stages that are a mix of rocky, rough and smooth areas of the event that decides the champions in the three calendar categories.
The stages include Nsaka (21.3kms), Kyamutakasa (30kms), Industrial Park (2.45kms), repeat Kaddunda and Kyamutakasa (30kms) and end the rally with a repeat of the Industrial Park stage.
Francis Omo dropped out of the event together with christakis Fitidis but the latter will tomorrow drive the super rally.
