USPA to hold scientific gala

The Nile Special-Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA) annual gala will take place despite the COVID-19 Pandemic impact but is likely to be scientific.
The most precious social gathering in the region that recognizes excellency among athletes was meant to be held in April, but the Covid Pandemic lockdown and suspension of the social gatherings put the organisation on hold.
“We are in preparations and we expect to have a scientific gala with less guests,” USPA president Patrick Kanyomozi confirmed the development.
“We finished naming the winners. We are on the stage of procuring trophies and also negotiating with the government to allow us to invite at least 200 guests,” Kanyomozi added.
The annual gala usually hosts 500 guests but because of Ministry of Health guidelines on social gathering and distancing only 200 guests can be hosted at the gala.
Athlete Joshua Cheptegei, Halima Nakaayi and soccer star Emmanuel Okwi are shortlisted for the top award of the Nile Special USPA Sports Personality of the year.
Cheptegei was last year’s winner.
