UOC commends sports Associations

Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) Secretary General Dr. Donald Rukare has commended national sports federation for the rapid embracing of technology during this COVID-19 Pandemic Lockdown.
Dr. Rukare made the commendation following a record 55-member participants in Saturday June27,2020 UOC/ Commonwealth Games Association of Uganda (CGAU) Virtual Council Meeting.
“Embracing the new technology is the way to go. I encourage you to use the available platforms to engage with stakeholders and stay relevant in your operations,” Rukare noted.
The federations/associations including ,rugby, swimming,hockey, table tennis,athletics,basketball, volleyball,boxing,handball and netball participated in the meeting.
He added that Sports remain inactive awaiting clearance from the National Council of Sports (NCS) but emphasized that capacity building training including The Advanced Sports Management Courses (ASMAC) will continue online because of the COVID-19 disruption.
The meeting presided over by UOC President /IOC Member William Blick, had the media, federation/association officials, UOC commissions members, executive members, and Olympians Michael Wokorach, Halima Nakaayi, NCS and ANOCA President/IOC Member Mustapha participate.
The Council meeting is held every quarter of the year to discuss and review issues including the UOC bi-annual reports covering activities in the period January-June.
Athletes who had qualified for the Olympics to stay focused and those who had not were encouraged to keep training and be ready for the qualifier events that will be communicated.
Blick confirmed that UOC concluded a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Next Media to promote UOC activities on NBS TV.
