Motorsport administrator Darbelah Apolot has joined politics on the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) ticket.
Apolot popularly known as Mama Fortune is eyeing Kira Municipality Women Councilor 2021-2026.
Apolot the mother of motocross champion Fortune Ssentamu said that she wants to add her voice for the funding sports at local government level and also promote women empowerment.
Apolot has been manager of the Uganda motocross team that has won the FIM east and central Africa Motocross championship for the last six years.
If elected she will bring a lot of experience of sports management and the value of sports to the community in Kira.
“We want to bring out a voice to see how the government can support sports and talented children. Our target can only be achieved when we have a bigger voice at the decision-making organs,” Apolot who is also a poultry farmer said.
She joins rally driver John Burrows Lumu, who is focused on unseating incumbent Latif Ssebagala in Kawempe North constituency Kampala District in parliament.
Rally driver Samuel Bwete aka Kawunyemu who is eyeing Mukono district MP seat.
Other sports personalities targeting Parliament include, Shooting Sport Federation president Anne Mungoma (Manafwa district Women), former FUFA treasurer Patrick Isiagi, Eddy Ssempatya), Denis Galabuzi (Table tennis), Allan Ssewanyana (Sports analyst), Julius Achon (athletics) and Jimmy Akena Obote (Motorsport).
Mungoma has got a big fight to unseat incumbent Mary Kitutu who is the Energy and Mineral development minister.
“Bugisu region has so many untapped talents that I intend to tap using my experience and influence in the sports sector,” She added.
The other members seeking political seats include Urban Tv talk Show sports analyst Sarah Adong, Bukedde Tv presenter Innocent Tegusulwa, Uganda Professional boxing Commission President Salim Uhuru, Uganda Lawn Tennis Association president Cedric Babu and Uganda Boxing Federation president Moses Muhangi.
