The 2019 Nile Special USPA female athlete of the year Halima Nakaayi has urged fellow athletes to persevere if they are to achieve their dreams.
Halima in her appreciation speech at hotel Serena narrated that it has taken her close to 10 years to win gold at the world stage, but has been a regular on the national athletics for the last five years.
She said there are so many challenges athletes face, especially the female, but determination, hard work and focus is the solution/.
“When I was still you at Bombo Secondary school, I collapsed during an event, my parents from then discouraged me and urged me to stop athletics,” Halima said.
“While heading to my training at Namboole, I face so many insults from the people who ask me that I’m tiny and what body am I sliming, but I have given them a deaf ear,” she added.
Chief guest Donald Rukare urged the federation to be organized, and democratic in their governance in order to be successful.
He lauded USPA for the good work done to recognize athletes which motivates them to improve on their performance.
