Tusker Malt Uganda Open Golf Championship 2020 – Ladies
1. Martha Babirye – 236 Gross
2. Peace Kabasweka – 238
3. Irene Nakalembe – 244
Sensational handicap 4-star Martha Babirye is the winner of the Ladies Title of the Tusker Malt Uganda Open Golf Championship 2020 at the tournament held on Saturday at Uganda Golf Club’s par-72 course in Kitante.
The 2019Nile Special USPA Female golfer of the year who claimed her first title last year at her home course, Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort and Spa, with a total gross score of 236 (81, 77 and 78) off 54 holes to keep the ladies most adored domestic title jubilated her victory.
” In the first two rounds l was trailing as Tooro Club’s handicap 5 lady golfer Peace Kabasweka but I did not give up which resulted in success at the end,” Babirye said.
“When you slip it’s important to collect yourself and stay on course. My game wasn’t bad as I fought hard till the final hole. On the final day, chasing pars in each hole and setting such a target helped me stay focused and keep my balance”.
Kabasweka had enjoyed day one as she took lead 79 and 77 respectively but got a set back with an 85 score on the final round when she returned, totalling to a gross score of 244 finishing second.
The young golfer revealed that she seeks to emulate Flavia Namakula’s dominance at Uganda Open that saw her take the gong in 2010, 2011, 2014 and 2016.
The competitive Uganda Open resumes this week with the Amateur gross event running December 1-4,2020.
The event will be sponsored by Tusker Malt Lager, Next Media, Master Power Systems, Stanbic Bank, Pinnacle Security, Crown Berger, Crown Beverages, Robert Ojara Education Foundation and Case Medcare
